ভজুরাম মেমোরিয়াল স্কুলের অঙ্কের মাস্টারমশাই জয়পতাকাবাবুকে দেখে বীর বলে আদৌ মনে হয় না। কিন্তু তিনিই চমকে দিলেন যখন খেলার মাঠে একদিন মোলাকাত হয়ে গেল শহরের সবচেয়ে সাংঘাতিক জীব কালুর সাথে। ভয়ংকর সেই ষাঁড়ের মুখোমুখি দিব্যি লড়ে গেলেন জয়পতাকাবাবু।
কিন্তু শেষরক্ষা হল না। কালুর গুঁতোয় উড়ে গেলেন তিনি। শূন্যে বার দুই সামারসল্ট খেয়ে শেষমেশ সওয়ার হলেন সেই কালুর পিঠে!
দর্শকমণ্ডলীর তুমুল হর্ষধ্বনির মধ্যে জয়পতাকাবাবুকে পিঠে নিয়ে দিগ্বিদিক জ্ঞানশূন্য হয়ে ছুটতে লাগল কালু। শহর পেরিয়ে ঢুকে পড়ল পটাশগড়ের জঙ্গলে। তারপর?

Jaypatakababu, the Maths teacher of Bhajuram Memorial School, never seemed to be a hero. Which was why everyone just got bewildered when, one day, he had a fight in the playground with the most fearsome animal of the city: Kalu, a bull.
But he couldn’t save himself finally: Kalu jabbed him with its horns. Carried up in the air, he somersaulted and came down on the beast’s back.
With the blusterous cheering of the spectators, Kalu started to run frantically while Jaypatakababu was sitting on its back. It crossed the city and entered the jungle of Patashgar.
